P18 - The role of TRPV2 and TRPV3 in epithelial barrier homeostasis

We hypothesize that TRPV2 channels in immune cells and TRPV3 channels in epithelial cells contribute to epithelial barrier integrity in the skin and the gastrointestinal tract. The identification of novel pharmacological tools that acutely modulate TRPV2 and TRPV3 now enables us to dissect their role in the interplay between immune and epithelial cells in homeostasis and pathophysiological models. We will assess to what extent TRPV3 is involved in keratinocyte and enterocyte physiology, and how TRPV2 modulation affects dermal and intestinal immune cells. Thereby, we want to explore a possible therapeutic relevance of targeting TRPV2 or TRPV3 in diseases that are associated with epithelial barrier dysfunction.
