P23 - The role of TRP channels in the systemic regulation of energy and glucose metabolism

Using newly developed models, we found that TRPM5, TRPM7 and TRPM8 regulate systemic energy and glucose metabolism. Building up on these findings, we hypothesize that signal modification of TRPM5, TRPM7 and TRPM8 carries pharmacological potential for the treatment of obesity and type-2 diabetes, particularly when used in combination with incretin-based pharmacotherapies. The project will decipher the molecular underpinnings underlying energy metabolism improvement by TRPM5, TRPM7 and TRPM8 and will assess the pharmacological potential of targeting these receptors for the treatment of obesity and type-2 diabetes.
